Hortus Imaginum Tree Songs

As the audience walked the garden path, they encountered performers, images and these two Tree Songs, played back under the corresponding trees; Metasquoia glyptostroboides (Dawn Redwood) and Paulownia tomentosa (Princess Tree or Empress Tree).

I learned the names of trees in the garden and stories about them from Roland Barnsley, who led the planting of Walker Botanical Garden, during a walk-through with him, accompanied by my father, Charles Chitty. Roland Barnsley (1919-1999) was Superintendent of the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture from 1979-1986.

Composition and vocal: Elizabeth Chitty
Recording: Michael D’Amico
